On site protection?A good article.....protection at an investigation site is a personal choice as we all have different beliefs...I personally as yet have not found the need for this. It is an interesting article none the less. Debbie
On-site Protection
PROTECTION OF ONE'S SELF at a site is paramount. You have to know that not only are you dealing with the scientific end of ghost hunting, but also the spiritual side as well. There is a process called binding, and this is a real phenomena. Many people take these hauntings for granted, forgetting an important aspect of an investigation - that energy attracts energy. From personal experience I can tell you that it does happen. This process is how the ghost follows you home: For what ever reason the spirtual energy finds you to be likeable - your energy is good, you remind them of someone, they are lonely, or bored. These spirits follow you home and hang around for a few days,s ometimes longer, and sometimes they stay. It starts out as small poltergiest activity and is almost a giveaway when you have had no activity there previously. When that happens its imperative to remember where you have been in order to pinpoint possibilities. This is not to be confused with visiting energies that you are aware of already. I would suggest that you document the haunting, as we normally do, then call in a reputable psychic to move them.
Now before you say, this guy is "off" and turn the page, hear me out. For the most part (a large percentage) of what we investigate, is human or animal. A small part can be attributed to pure evil (demonic) and elemental, depending on your belief system. When dealing with a demonic attack, you are dealing with an anti-God atmosphere. This is an all out "war" type of situation. Anything that is positive in nature is under attack, any holy symbols are desecrated and/or destroyed, any pictures of Christ are desecrated or destroyed. You're dealing with something that is, for the most part in a survivalistic mode, hence all out verbal and physical attacks upon anyone mentioning Christ or God. People, being created in God's image, are as good as mentioning the Creator. This situation that I described is not the norm, but it does happen and without protection, it could come home with you. How do you protect yourself from something like this? Prayer and meditation works for me. I have had a lot of success with this, and depending on your belief system, it's always a positive thing to invoke a diety before and after your investigation. At any time you are involved with something like this, I would suggest to bring in someone that is more experienced and always notify clergy. I would also like to include a couple of the prayers I use to see if it helps you all at the end of this.
When dealing with a human spirit, try to discover their religious/spiritual background and use this on site. This will give you more help in dealing with the spirit. You have to remember that when dealing with human spirits,you have to psychologically prepare yourself for the encounter as well. This process is different from the process for preparing for a demonic entity. You are dealing with human issues, needs and desires. You may be dealing with a human that acts evil but there is a difference the behavior and energy. Although they will be strong, they will not be unearthly strong. In this case I have found that communication is the best bet. Always have meduim on hand when dealing with human spirits. You will find that a constant communication and understanding of their situation will not only give you the best results, but builds a rapport with the spirit. When you have documented your site then I suggest you pass the spirit. I am a firm believer of "There by the grace of God, go I." There are many styles and protocols to this and I suggest you always use one that has been proven.
In conclusion, always be aware of your surroundings and even though a site is always "jumping" and things turn on a dime, remember to always protect yourself, because you are the only one you have.
